Blanchard Library, Santa Paula California

The Dean Hobbs Memorial Library serviced Santa Paula until the early 1970's when it was declared unsafe and torn down. It was beautiful but after the earthquake in Sylmar earthquake in 1971 it was literally hanging on by a thread.

The lower basement "children's room," was completely made of wood and had only one exit. In a fire or another earthquake it would have been a deathtrap. It was the first library I ever went to and I wish that it could have been saved.

Paper and Places of Ventura County

This site is devoted to the paper, people, and places of Ventura County California. Ventura County California, is about 1 hour north of Los Angeles, and 20 miles south of Santa Barbara. It is one of the most culturally and historically important places in the United States and California. I was lucky enough to have been born in Ventura, California and so was my son. My father and his father were also both born in Ventura County. This page is a tribute to my family, friends and my first love, Ventura County, California.
